The Pig Palace

My cavy family has grown so fast in the last year!! I feel like I need more and more space every day. I started with one large 5 cube by 2 cube cage but within a matter of a couple weeks I had to build another then another and so on. My caviary is currently located in the basement at my dads house until my fiance and I close on our new house. They are quite comfortable for this short amount of time but I am putting them in a space bedroom with windows when we move in. We will be moving into our new house shortly and all Pig Palace Pictures will be updated. Im so excited about moving them into the new house since it will be the last and final time I move them.

The girls large open cage. These are sows that are too young to breed, moms that are resting, and sows that are sold. The numbers usually get to high to keep in this cage alone so they will be spread out in another area.

When in breeding, each boar is carefully choosen to be put with the best sow in order to produce the most excellent quality babies. Each cage is supplied with unlimited hay, water, and pellets. Breeding sows are given Vitamin C tablets each day and even some boars because they become jelous, lol.

The boars that are not in breeding are usually given about 1 cube by 2 cubes. I would love to just throw them all in together so they can have one large cage as well but that just wouldn't work.

Older boars will fight to the death but young boars are usually good for a while. Some of my boars get along but those are really laid back and have been together since they were young.

This is a special cage that I designed. It has a loft area in which they use to spy on the other pigs. I usually never have the same pig in the same area very long. New babies will arrive and older ones can get moved into bigger groups. I try to give everyone a chance to enjoy the loft.

I tend to clean out all these cages about every 4 days. I also use around 20 zip ties everytime I clean them out. They are really helpful when dividing up large cages rather then having to clean several small ones.

This is a picture of the young boars home. They always get the yellow barn since they are sooo hyper and love to climb on top of it.

The area in my basement is kept at 72 degrees which is a perfect temperature for a Skinny Pigs. As I said before, each cage is cleaned every 4 days. The floor of the cages are then cleaned with scrubby bubbles shower foamer which I believe keeps the piggys healthy and the cage extra clean. I also disinfect each igloo/housing unit/water bottle spout and soak the food dishes in hot water. Just in one cleaning of the cages I use two 40 gallon trash bags, 1 paper towel roll, and a half a bottle of scrubby bubbles. After I get done I usually mop the floor so that it looks perfectly clean for about 5 minutes, haha. If you have any questions about anything else I do around my Caviary, just contact me and I will try my best to answer your question.
